Out-of-School Time

History of Out-of-School Time

Starting in 2013, the Michigan Department of Education-Office of Great Start awarded funding to ECIC to explore how to expand Great Start to Quality to include programs and providers serving schoolagers (children from kindergarten entry to age 12). This work has engaged stakeholders at every level of the system from state level government officials to program staff. This inclusion of out-of-school time programs and providers in Great Start to Quality will provide out-of-school time care and education programs with quality improvement supports such as trainings, materials, one-on-one specialized consultation and other resources. Michigan is keeping pace with the nation in expansion of our quality rating and improvement system, Great Start to Quality, to include out-of-school time care and education programs.
